JIMS was founded in 1995 under the name of the Jakarta International Montessori School. In 2007, it was taken over by PT Daya Multibudaya and the school’s name was changed to Jakarta International Multicultural School. The new JIMS then decided to take on board the curriculum of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), and is currently a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP).
The new JIMS maintains its course in addressing a growing need for a warm, cosy and student-oriented school. The low teacher-student ratio allows JIMS to pay attention to the individual needs, learning preferences, and talents of the students. Therefore, at JIMS students do not ‘get bored’. They cannot afford to ‘get bored’ in Advancing Creativity and Excellence to be able to compete in the global village.
Multiculturalism has been JIMS’ trademark. Students of JIMS come from diverse nationalities, and the PYP curriculum helps the students to develop a multicultural tolerance at an early age. To respond to the needs of non-English speaking students, JIMS provides intensive English tutoring to students who have not yet acquired proficiency in English. We are proud to say that we have an excellent success rate in assisting students to gain sufficient language skills to participate actively in class.
JIMS’ four Board members support the school’s motto of developing the whole child: body, mind and spirit.
Siti Aisyah Lukman

With her long standing experience in the world of education, Siti Aisyah has been playing a pivotal role in the overall development of JIMS.
Edriana Noerdin, MA
Edriana received her undergraduate degree in law from the Pancasila University in Jakarta, and her Master’s degree in Women and Development from The Institute of Social Studies in Den Haag, Holland. Her passion about women’s empowerment led her to found the Women’s Research Institute, a research and educational institution that aims to improve women’s political participation and welfare. She has written and edited several books on women’s political empowerment, and receives frequent invitations to be a resource person to various forums in Indonesia and abroad. She is also a gender equality trainer for the Indonesian government and for international institutions. Believing in education as a means to promote creativity and excellence in this globalizing world, Edriana is making certain that JIMS has the best teachers, curriculum, library and other learning facilities.

Sita received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Indonesia, Jakarta, and her Master’s degree in Gender Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK. Sita has been involved in women’s movements since her schooldays. Together with Edriana she founded the Women’s Research Institute to fight discrimination against women in the home, workplace and in society at large. She also lectures on ‘Violence against Women’ and ‘The Portrayal of Women in the Media’ at the Women’s Study Programme, a graduate programme of the University of Indonesia. She has also become a gender equality trainer for the Indonesian government and international institutions.
