The primary students enjoyed a variety of Book Week activities last week. The theme for the week was Roald Dahl and his amazing contribution to children’s literature. The students have listened to his hilarious and thoroughly entertaining stories and watched some of them on the small screen. There was particular excitement in preparation for Friday’s cooking activities. The chance of making ‘Stink Bug Eggs, Willy Wonka Chocolates and Frobscottle’ certainly got everyone’s attention!

JIMS Pyjama Party
On Friday 28th August the students at JIMS celebrated the move to our new campus with a Pyjama Party. The event was an enormous success with everyone having a fantastic time. It now looks like it will become an annual event on our calendar. The students thoroughly enjoyed their first swim in the pool; it was difficult to convince them to get out! There were also some amazing moves on the dance floor before we enjoyed breaking fast/dinner together in the new cafeteria. The novel experience of sleeping at school was enthusiastically undertaken by the majority of our students. It was fantastic to awaken to a beautiful Jakarta morning and share breakfast together.

End of Year Production
The students of JIMS finished their academic year with an outstanding production in the Multifunction Hall at our new campus. Our students had eagerly been rehearsing and on Wednesday they hit the stage to perform!
Friends and family gathered for the event and were amazed by the bright colours, music, singing and dancing. Every student was involved in the production and performed beautifully in their new surrounds. Our mums also hit the stage with a wonderful song and dance.
It was truly a fantastic celebration; our students have achieved so much this year.
We would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday.
We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 5th August at the new campus.

The JIMS annual Art Competition
What a day! The JIMS annual Art Competition took place last Saturday in the midst of bright colours, art
supplies and recycled materials.
This year the competition was divided into two categories; 3D Sculpture for the 7 to 15 year olds and a Colouring Competition for the 3 to 6 year olds.
The ‘Go Green’ theme was reflected in each of the colouring pictures and was represented by recycled materials in the amazing sculptures constructed by the older children. The competitors enthusiastically took part in the events and then enjoyed a variety of fun activities and games before anxiously awaiting the judges’ decisions.
We would like to congratulate the winners and thank all the participants for helping to make the event such a great success!

Visit day
On Thursday 23rd of April, we went to the camp where the kids who were affected by the Situ Gintung disaster lived. We interviewed some of the kids; we asked if they needed some of our help. Some of the kids said that they needed school supplies, books and toys. We also gave them invitations for the fun day to come. We asked them how they felt after the disaster. They were sad at first but day by day they were ok. They still could learn and have fun with their friends.

Fundraising
The Tigers wanted to help the Situ Gintung children, so we came up with some fund raising events. The first fundraising event happened on the 27th of April (Monday), It was the ‘Bake Sale’. At the bake sale we had: Sandwiches, Custard cakes, Noodle balls, Chocolate balls, tea cakes, Ring cakes and cookies. This event raised Rp.345,000. Next we had the ‘
No Uniform Day’ which was held on Friday 1st of May. The students had to buy tickets if they wanted to wear free clothes on Friday 1st of May. These tickets were Rp.20,000 and this event raised Rp.840,000. We also had a Charity drive, it happened from the 27th of April until the 1st of May. The Charity Drive was where we asked students to donate 1 or more Toys/School supplies or Books. We received over 150 items. We were also given a Rp.500,000 donation from former students Steven and Steffi. In total, we had a grand total of Rp1,778,300. We used this money to buy more books and school supplies.

GREAT NEWS! The Departemen Pendidikan Nasional (Department of Education), in its letter no. 1670/C/LN/2009, dated 13 April, 2009, has accredited the Jakarta International Multicultural School (JIMS) as a certified International School. This means that Indonesian students who graduate from JIMS may now attend any state-owned schools, including public universities, to continue their studies even though they have not taken the state-sponsored National Final Examinations (Ujian Akhir Nasional - UAN). A high school diploma from JIMS, as a certified International School, will allow Indonesian students to join the Public University Entrance Examinations to seek admittance to numerous top public universities in the country. JIMS will continue to provide excellence and convenience when it comes to the education of your children.

On Wednesday JIMS celebrated Earth Day. It was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of caring for our environment. There was a great variety of activities throughout the day. The Sunflowers, Orchids and Jasmines classes enjoyed a whole day of activities which even included a scavenger hunt and tree planting! The Penguins constructed ’good’ and ’bad’ Earth posters to demonstrate what would happen
depending on the
actions taken ‘today’. While the Dragons created acrostic poems around the Earth Day theme and both the Tigers and Dragons devised a list of ways to help the environment at home. Our secondary students in the Cedars classroom room took on the
Earth Day Wordsearch Challenge. All of our students also took part in a ‘Hands of Change’ project. Individual students used their handprints to create a poster to demonstrate their commitment to conserving the environment around them. Our students truly do understand that individuals can make a difference and everyone must play their part.

"Lots of things are happening at the Jakarta International Multicultural School (JIMS) this week. The Pizza Hut Reading Challenge for Year 5 and 6(Tigers) students was completed this week. The students were challenged to read ten age-appropriate novels in six weeks and the successful students received a complimentary pizza for lunch. I am proud to inform you that 80% of the Tigers completed the challenge and in total the Tigers read 119 books in that 6 week period. This week was also Book Week at JIMS and we had lots of fun book related events such as ‘How to make a comic' event held on Tuesday and meeting an 11 year old Indonesian children's book author Aini Qurrota on Wednesday who has published several short story books. Her story was truly inspiring. It was also nice to see some of the Tigers read stories to the Year 1 and 2 students."

Vice Regent of Kabupaten Tangerang, Mr Rano Karno, laid the first stone for
the development of the Jakarta International Multicultural School's (JIMS)
new building. The laying of the first stone took place on 29 November,
2008, and was a giant leap forward for JIMS. JIMS is planning to move to
the new building at the beginning of the next academic year in August
2009.
After the laying of the first stone, students, parents, teachers and
Board members planted trees on JIMS' 1.3 ha land - 5 minutes away from its
current location - preparing JIMS to become the greenest international
school in Jakarta.

The Jakarta International Multicultural School (JIMS) organised a
spectacular ‘Arts and Cultural Field Trip’ to Bali for Year 5, 6, 7 and 8
students. They stayed in the beautiful Alam Sari Keliki Hotel, a 15-minute
drive from Ubud, Bali, from 17 to 21 November, 2008. There was no TV for
the full week, and astonishingly there were no complaints about that from
the students. In the evening, they occupied themselves playing games, reading books and talking to each other. The Keliki Village tour provided an excellent experience for the students.
The guide was able to explain Balinese traditional life in a way that the
students understood. They learned about the Balinese people, their spirituality, their philosophy and their daily routines. The students were
able to experience a different side to Bali and they all came away with
something positive. The experience fits in well with the aim of the
International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) - JIMS is currently a
candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) - to develop
inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a
better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The batik making, gamelan learning, miniature painting and Balinese
dancing were all amazing experiences for our students. They found that
Bali is not just about fun beaches and beautiful sunsets. No wonder that
the students did feel the need to ask questions from the moment they woke
up to the moment they went to bed.
