  • JIMS Student Council
  • JIMS Student Council has been voted in during the past week. Each class now has a representative and we are about to begin our weekly meetings. Every Monday over lunch, the representatives from each class will meet with Mr Todd in the special Student Council room to discuss student activities and general student initiatives.

Hopefully we'll be able to cultivate leadership and responsibility in all our Student Council members with this programme. It is an exciting job, filled with responsibility, communication, and a sense of prestige. We are very proud of our Student Council and their desire to act as responsible representation for our students.

  • Baseball camp at Ripken
  • Grade 8 JIMS student Xendra Nara had a blast when he joined the 2010 Ripken Baseball Youth Academy's baseball camp in Aberdeen, Maryland, USA, this summer. He was thrilled to be there with more than one hundred other students from all over the US and from some other countries. They were coached by Carl Ripken, who is known in the Baseball Hall of Fame as the 'Iron Man, and by several other former Major League Baseball (MLB) players. Together with twelve other students, Xendra was selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Xendra is part of JIMS' Baseball Team that has been training hard under Coach Ucok (JIMS PE teacher), who was the coach of the Indonesian major team for the past Asia Pacific Tournament, to prepare for the Turnament Pelajar (Student Tournament) that will be held this October 2010 in Jakarta. JIMS' Baseball Team consists of JIMS students from countries such as Indonesia, the US, Japan and South Korea. Wish us luck in our first TP competition. Go team go!

  • JIMS Music Concert
  • On Wednesday June 2, the sound of music filled the air as JIMS students (and some teachers) sang, danced, and played their musical instruments. Pianicas, recorders, drums, cymbals and rocking guitars thrilled the audience as kids of all ages took to the stage.

Mr. Wady, our music teacher, put together a show with musical pieces that spanned generations of music (from The Wizard of Oz to Nirvana!) and master of ceremonies, Ms. Emily, delighted us with her humour and passion for music. Some teachers even performed including Mr. Elliott, Mr. Jack and Ms. Emily. It was a fantastic show!

  • Virtual Interview
  • On Wednesday 31 March 2010, the Dragons (Year 4 students) and their teacher, Mr Todd Stinson, were delighted to have a virtual interview with a real Mechanical Engineer in Canada via Skype. The guest speaker was Mr Mark Stinson, whose company is called Sunrise Power. Their main focus is general household Solar Power equipment.

Since the students had covered Solar Energy within their 'Energy' UOI, Mr Todd thought it would be perfect for them to hear about a day in the life of an engineer who is working at the forefront of this technology. The students had a blast! Mr Mark Stinson (who is Mr Todd's younger brother) enjoyed the hour-long session as well. There were many well informed and creative questions from the students and the experience of the virtual interview will remain with them for a long time. They enjoyed this real International experience!

  • World Maths Day
  • On Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 March, around 50 JIMS students participated in the commencement of the World Maths Day. They enjoyed all the challenges in answering the questions on line as quickly as they could while having fun. They had a chance to play against other students from other schools around the world. Five Secondary students received Gold Award Certificates for answering at least 4,000 questions correctly. Congratulations Kyuwon Chae, Dominique Newbould, Putra Gaharu Christian, Aaron Gregory and Zafira Sulaeman. Can we have World Maths Day at least twice a year, please?

  • Teacher's Day
  • On February 2nd, students gathered in the hall to celebrate and thank their teachers for all their hard work. Each teacher was honoured and presented with a mug and flower. Students performed a number of hilarious skits in which they made fun of their favourite teachers and everyone had a great time. We teachers want to thank the students for recognizing the work we do on their behalf.

  • Student Led Conferences
  • The preschool and primary students finished the semester by presenting their portfolios to their parents. They were all extremely excited to present their work and talk about the amazing things they had learnt and experienced. Portfolios are an excellent way to showcase student work and demonstrate the development of individual students.

  • Wacky Trivia Olympics
  • The annual Wacky Trivia Olympics took place at JIMS on Friday. The preschool and primary students eagerly competed in their House groups for the honour of becoming Trivia Olympic Champions!

The preschool students had a wonderful time competing in various activities, including a race to see who could put their team mates socks and shoes on the fastest! Certainly an hilarious challenge to watch and participate in.

The primary students gathered together after the lunch break to take on the physical challenges and mind blowing trivia. The baseball spin had many competitors in a twirl and the quiz questions certainly tested the brainpower, but after several rounds and tense battles the Kalimantan Team 3 came out victorious!

  • Grand Opening
  • On Saturday 24th October Jakarta International Multicultural School's new campus was officially opened. Bapak H Rano Karno graciously attended and performed the 'cutting of the ribbon' ceremony.

Our students, Maria, Yumi, Christian and Dyka, (along with assistance from Mr Elliott and Mr Wady), provided an inaugural performance from the new JIMS Band. Amy from Year 5 also performed an excellent violin solo.

The day was an outstanding success with many from the JIMS community and beyond helping us celebrate this momentous occasion in JIMS history.

  • UN Day
  • JIMS is a multicultural school. To celebrate our diversity and to continue developing international-mindedness within the school, the primary students at JIMS traveled around the world without leaving the school when they celebrated their multiculturalism and UN Day on Friday October 23rd, 2009.

The programme included a costume parade with all students dressing in their national dress. The students also visited a variety of booths representing different countries, organized by JIMS' PTA. They ate traditional snacks, watch demonstrations, play traditional games and collected stamps in their special UN Day Passports.

The whole school came together at lunch to eat an International Pot Luck; students had brought along their favourite traditional dishes from their home country. The result was a delicious feast of fabulous foods from around the globe!

A big thank you to all of the mums and dads who went to amazing lengths to make this day such a special occasion for our students.

  • Fun Sports Day
  • On Friday 9th October the students at JIMS participated in their annual Fun Sports Day. The students arrived in their house colours, with many going to extraordinary lengths to display support for their house; hair spray, face paint, glitter and even wigs could be seen amongst the crowd that gathered in the Hall. The first session of events included a 3 legged race, caterpillar crawl and balloon squish! Dr Ron, Mr Elliott and Mr Satria also helped their houses out with the hilarious balloon juggle. Even the tug of war was hotly contested, although the teacher's team did not fair so well in this event! After a short break it was time to hit the pool for another round of events. With legs kicking and arms flying through the water the house teams competed for victory in the relays, while in the small pool the early years students played games to earn points for their houses. As the last activities finished no one was sure who the winner would be, all the teams had achieved some excellent results, but in the end it was the mighty Java house that came out on top!

  • School Holiday Program
  • The first JIMS Holiday Program took place during the second week of the holiday break. It was a huge success with many of our students participating. Those involved were able to choose from a variety of activities including, swimming, chocolate making, dance, a trip to the zoo and a Play in a Day! Similar programs will be a feature of all of JIMS' school breaks allowing our students the opportunity to participate in creative, interesting and affordable activities while on holidays.

  • PTA at Kidzania
  • JIMS' PTA decided to help our students enjoy their last day of holidays by organizing a trip to Kidzania! Many of our students participated in the activities and experiences; 'working' to earn Kidzania dollars, obtaining a drivers license, having medical checkouts, flying around the go-kart track and much, much more! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A special thank you to Ms Lily and Ms Nanny for organizing the event.

  • New Website Design
  • Mr. Elliott and Mr Arif, our secondary science teacher from Canada and our IT Specialist, has taken over JIMS website design and maintenance and provided a fresh and exciting new look. You'll still find all the necessary content you need to stay virtually connected with our school but we hope it will be a more enjoyable online experience. Stay tuned for even more new features and lots of updates!

  • Book Week
  • The primary students enjoyed a variety of Book Week activities last week. The theme for the week was Roald Dahl and his amazing contribution to children’s literature. The students have listened to his hilarious and thoroughly entertaining stories and watched some of them on the small screen. There was particular excitement in preparation for Friday’s cooking activities. The chance of making ‘Stink Bug Eggs, Willy Wonka Chocolates and Frobscottle’ certainly got everyone’s attention!

  • JIMS Pyjama Party
  • On Friday 28th August the students at JIMS celebrated the move to our new campus with a Pyjama Party. The event was an enormous success with everyone having a fantastic time. It now looks like it will become an annual event on our calendar. The students thoroughly enjoyed their first swim in the pool; it was difficult to convince them to get out! There were also some amazing moves on the dance floor before we enjoyed breaking fast/dinner together in the new cafeteria. The novel experience of sleeping at school was enthusiastically undertaken by the majority of our students. It was fantastic to awaken to a beautiful Jakarta morning and share breakfast together.

  • End of Year Production 2008-2009

The students of JIMS finished their academic year with an outstanding production in the Multifunction Hall at our new campus.  Our students had eagerly been rehearsing and on Wednesday they hit the stage to perform!
Friends and family gathered for the event and were amazed by the bright colours, music, singing and dancing.  Every student was involved in the production and performed beautifully in their new surrounds. Our mums also hit the stage with a wonderful song and dance. It was truly a fantastic celebration; our students have achieved so much this year. We would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday. We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 5th August at the new campus.
